Tinubu Meets Security Chiefs as Terrorism, Banditry and Kidnappings Escalate

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a high-level security meeting with Nigeria’s top military commanders, intelligence chiefs and senior security officials at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, amid growing concerns over worsening insecurity across the country.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted more than two hours, focused on reviewing the nation’s security situation and assessing ongoing military operations against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

Among those in attendance were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Isa; Inspector-General of Police, Olatunde Disu; alongside heads of the DSS, NIA, Defence Intelligence Agency and other senior security officials.

The meeting comes as security forces intensify operations across the North-West and North-East. Recent military operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA reportedly disrupted a large convoy of armed terrorists in Zamfara and Katsina States, while troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled fresh attacks by suspected ISWAP fighters on military positions in Borno State.

Earlier in the day, NSA Nuhu Ribadu described kidnapping as one of Nigeria’s most serious security threats, warning that criminal groups are becoming increasingly sophisticated and stressing the need for stronger intelligence sharing and closer collaboration among security agencies.

As of the time of the meeting, the Presidency had not released details of the resolutions reached or any new directives issued to the nation’s security agencies.
