Crisis in Borno: Boko Haram Faction Threatens Execution of 416 Captives as Ultimatum Expires
GOSHE, BORNO STATE — The security situation in Northeast Nigeria has reached a critical breaking point as the Boko Haram faction Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidda’Awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) declared that its 72-hour ultimatum to the Federal Government has expired. The group warns it is now prepared to begin executing 416 captives, the vast majority of whom are women and children.
In a chilling video obtained by SaharaReporters, a spokesperson for the insurgents—operating under the leadership of Imam Abu Umaima Al-Muhajir—announced that all channels of negotiation have collapsed.
“No More Discussion”
Speaking in Hausa, the group’s spokesperson mocked government efforts and dismissed previous rumors of ransom amounts, asserting that the insurgents are not motivated by money.
- Negotiations Terminated: The group stated that the 72-hour deadline, which they claim was extended out of “patience,” ended on Saturday, April 25, 2026. “Now there is no more discussion,” the spokesperson declared.
- Airstrike Warnings: The terrorist ridiculed Senator Ali Ndume’s claims of military intervention, warning that any aircraft sent to Goshe would only succeed in killing the captives. “Send your aircraft if you want; they will only end up killing your own people,” he stated, alleging that recent drone strikes had already caused civilian casualties.
- Captives Blocked from Escape: The group issued a direct threat to the 416 women and children, warning them against any attempt to flee during military operations.
Humanitarian Mediator Raises the Alarm
The Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), which has acted as a precarious humanitarian bridge between the insurgents and the authorities, confirmed that the “extra time” they pleaded for has run out.
Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama, President of BOSYA, expressed grave fears that the public may soon witness recorded executions intended to send a message to the government.
“The words, pleas, and humanitarian interventions of BOSYA have often been the only line standing between execution and survival,” Kaigama said. “We have repeatedly called upon President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, and Governor Zulum, yet there has been no adequate response.”
Government Silence and International Appeal
BOSYA accused both federal and state levels of government of failing to act decisively despite being warned months ago. The group revealed that they were contacted by the insurgents as recently as April 29, 2026, and told the process was “too slow.”
The Alliance has now issued a desperate plea to the international community:
- Urgent Notice: They are calling on global human rights defenders and humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately.
- Priority on Lives: BOSYA insists that the safety and freedom of the women and children must remain the absolute priority over political or military optics.
As of April 30, 2026, the expiration of the deadline has left the families of the 416 victims in a state of terror, waiting for a sign of intervention from the Nigerian military or the Presidency to prevent a mass tragedy in the heart of Borno State.
