Oyo Government Imposes 16-Hour Curfew in 10 Local Government Areas
The Oyo State Government has announced the imposition of a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas of the state following a directive from Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to a memo issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the curfew will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
The restriction will be enforced daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will initially remain in place for 48 hours.
The curfew affects local government areas located along the boundaries of the Old Oyo National Park.
The affected councils are Oriire Local Government Area (Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Igboho), Irepo (Kisi), Saki West (Saki), Saki East (Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Otu), Iseyin (Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Igbeti), and Atiba Local Government Area (Offa-Meta, Oyo).
While announcing the directive, the state government did not immediately disclose the reason for the curfew.
Residents of the affected areas are expected to comply with the restriction as security agencies monitor and enforce the directive throughout the duration of the curfew.
