Osun Government Seeks Court Order for Police Probe Into Alleged Election Threats

The Osun State Government has filed a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to investigate alleged inciting statements attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of the state governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

The suit was filed by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, at the Osogbo Division of the Osun State High Court.

The government is asking the court to issue an Order of Mandamus compelling the Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to investigate a video allegedly showing Senator Fadahunsi making statements calling for violence against members and supporters of the Accord Party.

According to the court documents, the alleged remarks included threats against Accord Party members, their families and campaign activities. The state, however, stressed that the application is not asking the court to determine the senator’s guilt but to compel the police to investigate the allegations.

The government is also seeking the preservation, authentication and forensic examination of the video, as well as investigations into its source, date, audience, sponsors and those involved in its circulation.

Additionally, the state wants the police to provide protection for Accord Party members, candidates, officials, supporters, voters and other residents who may be at risk.

The government argued that urgent action is necessary because of the approaching election, warning that delays could endanger lives, disrupt public order and undermine electoral peace.

Senator Fadahunsi was listed as an interested party in the suit, while the Inspector-General of Police and Osun State Commissioner of Police were named as respondents.
