Nepal Flood Disaster: Death Toll Rises to 472 as Over 1,400 Remain Missing
The death toll from devastating floods that struck the Nepal-Tibet border region has risen to 472, with more than 1,400 people still missing, 48 hours after a massive wall of water and mud swept through the area.
The disaster, described as tsunami-like, struck on Wednesday, destroying homes, damaging bridges and sweeping away vehicles across parts of Nepal and Tibet.
Emergency rescue teams have recovered hundreds of bodies as they continue searching for survivors and missing persons. However, authorities have ordered rescue workers in some areas to move to safer locations after a debris dam reportedly burst in Tibet, raising fears of further flooding.
Among those still unaccounted for are trekkers in the Himalayan region and numerous Hindu pilgrims who had travelled to Tibet’s sacred Mount Kailash.
The scale of the disaster has left communities devastated, while families continue to search for loved ones amid widespread destruction. Rescue and recovery efforts remain ongoing as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and work to reach affected areas.
