VDM’s Lawyer Alleges Illegal Kidney Harvesting Involving Vulnerable Nigerian Youths

The lawyer representing social media influencer VeryDarkMan, Marshall Abubakar, has alleged that vulnerable young Nigerians are being recruited into illegal kidney harvesting schemes by medical practitioners and their agents under the guise of medical procedures.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, Abubakar claimed that more than 10 young Nigerians may have been affected by the alleged network.

According to him, the case came to light after a young man approached the Martin Luther King Centre, headed by VeryDarkMan, with a medical report indicating that his left kidney was missing.

Abubakar said the report was subsequently verified at two hospitals in Abuja, including a government medical facility in Jabi, where the absence of the kidney was reportedly confirmed.

He further alleged that the young man received about $1,300 following the procedure and that steps were allegedly taken to conceal his identity and the circumstances surrounding the operation.

The lawyer also claimed that other young people had allegedly been targeted in areas including Masaka, Nyanya and Mararaba, with some reportedly recruited through intermediaries.

Abubakar alleged that kidneys obtained from some victims were later sold for between ₦50 million and ₦70 million, while those allegedly involved received only a small portion of the proceeds.

He described the alleged activities as a serious criminal enterprise and stressed that legitimate organ donation must be based on informed and voluntary consent, without coercion or improper financial inducement.

He further alleged that some families were not informed about the procedures involving their relatives and only became aware of the circumstances after the allegations emerged.

The claims have not been independently established in the report, and investigations would be required to determine the facts, identify those responsible and establish whether any medical or criminal laws were violated.
