Adewole Adebayo Mourns Veteran Actor Olu Jacobs, Describes Him as a National Treasure

Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has mourned the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs, describing him as a national treasure whose contributions influenced generations.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, by his campaign’s Head of Communications, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the SDP candidate described Jacobs as a giant of Nigerian entertainment whose death has left a significant void in the film industry.

Adebayo said Jacobs played an important role in transforming Nigerian cinema and helping Nollywood gain international recognition through his professionalism, discipline and exceptional talent.

He also highlighted the late actor’s contribution to mentoring younger talents and shaping Nigerian culture through his work.

Adebayo extended his condolences to Jacobs’ family, particularly his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, as well as colleagues and the wider entertainment industry.

“Nigeria has lost a national treasure,” Adebayo said, adding that Jacobs’ legacy would continue to inspire filmmakers and generations of Nigerians.

The SDP candidate said the late actor did more than entertain audiences, describing his body of work as part of Nigeria’s cultural history.
