Police Arrest 10 Suspected Human Parts Dealers in Oyo
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected members of a human parts trafficking network following months of intelligence gathering, surveillance and monitoring of their activities.
The suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at different locations in the Iseyin and Saki areas of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, investigators searched the suspects’ hideouts following their arrests and recovered several items suspected to be human parts.
The recovered exhibits reportedly include a suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and various charms. The items have been secured for forensic examination as investigations continue.
Ayanlade said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly confessed to involvement in the trading of human parts for various ritual purposes. The suspects are reportedly assisting investigators in determining the source, procurement and intended use of the recovered items.
The police said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the network who may be connected to the activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for the intelligence-led operation and sustained surveillance that led to the arrests.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating criminal activities and protecting lives across the state.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police that could assist in preventing and detecting criminal activities.
The investigation into the alleged human parts trade remains ongoing, with the recovered exhibits expected to undergo forensic examination to establish their nature and assist authorities in determining the circumstances surrounding the case.
