Security Forces Arrest Suspected Lakurawa Fighter Linked to Mass Abductions in Niger State

Security forces have reportedly arrested a suspected Lakurawa fighter identified as Dego in the western axis of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, amid ongoing military operations against the terrorist group.

According to conflict reporter Bakatsine, Dego is allegedly linked to attacks and mass abductions around Dekara, where more than 500 women, men and children are reportedly still being held captive.

The arrest comes days after coordinated attacks on several communities in the area, during which scores of residents, including worshippers attending Friday prayers, were reportedly abducted.

Security sources are expected to use information obtained from the suspect to trace Lakurawa networks, movements and possible hideouts, as well as locate those still in captivity.

The reported attacks have heightened concerns over the security of rural communities in Borgu, with families continuing to await the safe return of their loved ones.
