Eight Gateway Polytechnic Students Abducted in Ogun as School Suspends Examinations
Gunmen have reportedly abducted eight students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA) after attacking their off-campus residence in Ipara, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when heavily armed assailants stormed the students’ residence and whisked them away, causing panic among students and residents of the community.
In response to the security incident, the management of Gateway ICT Polytechnic announced the immediate cancellation of all computer-based tests (CBT) and written examinations scheduled for Thursday.
In an official notice to students, the institution said the decision was taken due to the unfortunate security situation and urged students to remain calm while authorities work to address the crisis.
The statement read in part: “Following the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, today’s examination has been cancelled. However, tomorrow’s examination remains scheduled as planned. If there is any change, an official announcement will be communicated promptly.”
The management further encouraged students to stay positive, continue preparing for their examinations, and remain hopeful that the situation would be resolved soon.
The abduction has heightened concerns about the safety of students living off campus and renewed calls for stronger security measures around tertiary institutions in Ogun State. Authorities are yet to issue an official update on efforts to rescue the kidnapped students, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
