Nigeria Introduces Health Declaration Forms for Travellers From Ebola-Affected Countries
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has introduced health declaration forms for travellers arriving in Nigeria from countries with active or relevant Ebola virus transmission.
The new measure follows the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and an updated assessment of the potential risk to Nigeria.
Ebola Screening Measures Introduced at Nigerian Entry Points
According to the NCDC, travellers arriving from countries considered to have active or relevant Ebola transmission may be required to complete a health declaration form upon arrival in Nigeria.
Travellers arriving from other countries are currently exempt from completing the form.
The health declaration measure is part of Nigeria’s ongoing surveillance and preparedness efforts as health authorities monitor developments surrounding the Ebola outbreak.
Nigeria Remains on High Alert
The NCDC said Nigeria remains on high alert as the Ebola situation continues to evolve.
The agency is maintaining enhanced surveillance and preparedness measures to support early detection and response to any potential imported case.
The introduction of the health declaration forms is intended to strengthen monitoring at Nigeria’s points of entry and provide health authorities with relevant information from travellers arriving from affected areas.
Ebola Outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The new travel-health measure comes amid an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, prompting countries and international health authorities to review their preparedness and border surveillance measures.
Nigeria’s health authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assess the potential implications for the country.
Travellers planning to enter Nigeria from countries affected by Ebola are advised to pay attention to official guidance from the NCDC and comply with any health screening requirements at points of entry.
