ADC Appeals Court Judgment Nullifying Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Nomination, Urges INEC to Exercise Restraint

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has appealed the Federal High Court judgment that invalidated its Senator David Mark-led National Executive Committee and nullified the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The party has also filed an application seeking a stay of execution pending the determination of its appeal and has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the ADC urged INEC not to take any consequential action based on the judgment while the appeal and stay application remain pending.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, followed a suit filed by former ADC National Deputy Chairman (North-East), Nafiu Bala Gombe, who challenged the leadership of the Mark-led caretaker committee.

The ADC insists that it will pursue all available legal options to defend its leadership structure and Atiku’s nomination, while assuring members and supporters that its political activities and campaign will continue.

However, the filing of an appeal does not automatically suspend the court’s judgment. The application for a stay of execution remains subject to the court’s decision.
