Orire Kidnap Victim Tells Court How Captives Were Tortured For 56 Days

A DSS witness has told the Federal High Court in Abuja how 49 students and teachers abducted from schools in Orire LGA, Oyo State, endured 56 days in captivity.

The witness said the victims were moved through six locations and subjected to severe hunger, limited access to water and harsh living conditions. Children as young as 18 months were reportedly among those abducted.

She also testified that two teachers were allegedly killed after the kidnappers claimed the government was not responding to their demands.

According to the witness, the victims were eventually rescued at the sixth camp after security forces engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle.

The defence is expected to cross-examine the witness on Friday, September 18, while the defendants have been ordered to remain in DSS custody throughout the trial.
