Six Dead, Several Missing After Canoe Capsizes in Jigawa

A tragic canoe accident has claimed the lives of six people in Malamawa village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, after a boat carrying about 40 passengers capsized on Sunday evening.

According to the Jigawa State Government, 15 people have been rescued alive, while search and rescue operations remain ongoing for those still missing. Emergency officials say they will continue the operation until every victim is accounted for.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the canoe was overloaded, raising fresh concerns about water transportation safety and the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations on Nigeria’s inland waterways.
