SERAP Calls On Akpabio To Name NNPC Officials In ₦200 Trillion Probe
SERAP Urges Akpabio to Reveal Officials Linked to Alleged ₦200tn NNPCL Scandal
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on Godswill Akpabio to direct the Senate’s Public Accounts Committee to disclose the identities of officials allegedly involved in the reported ₦200 trillion misappropriation from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.
In its request, SERAP urged that the names and positions of all implicated individuals be made public, regardless of their political or social status, in the interest of transparency and accountability.
The organisation also asked the Senate leadership to ensure the wide release of details surrounding the ongoing probe. This includes audit reports, financial records, official correspondences, and the specific timelines for when those implicated are expected to appear before the committee, as well as when the investigation will be concluded.
Furthermore, SERAP called for full disclosure of the committee’s proceedings, including minutes, submissions, and all evidence presented, to allow for public scrutiny and independent assessment.
The Public Accounts Committee is currently investigating allegations that approximately ₦200 trillion may be unaccounted for in NNPCL’s financial records between 2017 and 2023.
Lawmakers have expressed concern over discrepancies in the accounts, citing unreconciled figures and insufficient documentation. The committee also noted that some officials invited for questioning have either failed to appear or have not provided satisfactory explanations regarding the alleged irregularities.
SERAP maintains that full transparency in the investigation is essential to strengthen public trust and ensure accountability in Nigeria’s oil sector.
