The Nigeria Police Force in Katsina State has presented welfare cheques worth over ₦13.3 million to families of officers who died in the line of duty, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The Katsina State Police Command distributed cheques totaling ₦13,353,589.45 to 32 families and next of kin during a ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Katsina.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the fallen officers for their resilience, sacrifice, and dedication to duty.

The event formed part of activities for National Police Day 2026, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

Fage also highlighted other initiatives carried out by the command, including sanitation exercises at Katsina Central Motor Park, medical outreach programmes, and the distribution of treated mosquito nets and medications at the Emir’s Palace.

He added that public awareness campaigns were conducted on drug abuse, traffic regulations, and electoral offences as part of efforts to strengthen community engagement.

The police chief assured serving officers that welfare packages would continue to be improved, while also calling for stronger collaboration with the media to enhance public awareness of police activities. He reiterated the command’s commitment to addressing complaints against officers and ensuring accountability.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Zainab Bishir, a mother of seven, expressed gratitude to the police authorities and pledged to invest the funds in a business to support her children.

She described the gesture as a significant relief for families left behind by fallen officers, promising to use the support judiciously for the welfare of her family.
