Police Arrest 12 Suspects Over Death Of Arise TV Anchor
Ten days after the tragic death of Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise Television, the Nigeria Police have confirmed the arrest of 12 suspects linked to the armed robbery that led to her demise.
Somtochukwu, fondly known as “Sommie,” was killed in the early hours of September 29 when armed robbers attacked her residence in Katampe, Abuja. During the incident, both she and a private security guard attached to the property lost their lives.
In a statement released on Thursday, the police disclosed that the suspects had confessed to the crime, following intensive investigations.
According to the authorities, four of the suspects were initially apprehended shortly after the robbery through the tracking of mobile phones stolen from the scene.
One of the suspects, Shamsudeen Hassan, reportedly admitted to shooting the security guard who tried to prevent them from gaining access to the residence. Another, Sani Sirajo, claimed he attempted to stop Somtochukwu from falling off a storey building, but was overpowered by her weight.
The suspects were identified as follows:

- Abubakar Alkamu a.k.a. Abba, 27 (Male) – Musawa LGA, Katsina State
- Sani Sirajo a.k.a. Dan Borume, 20 (Male) – Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
- Mashkur Jamilu a.k.a. Abba, 28 (Male) – Igabi LGA, Kaduna State
- Suleiman Badamasi a.k.a. Dan-Sule, 21 (Male) – Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
- Abdul Salam Saleh a.k.a. Na-Durudu (Male) – Katsina LGA, Katsina State
- Zaharadeen Muhammad a.k.a. Gwaska, 23 (Male) – Chikun LGA, Kaduna State
- Musa Adamu a.k.a. Musa Hassan, 30 (Male) – Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State
- Sumayya Mohammed a.k.a. Baby, 27 (Female) – Sammaka LGA, Kaduna State
- Isah Abdulrahman a.k.a. Abbati, 25 (Male) – Zaria LGA, Kaduna State
- Musa Umar a.k.a. Small, 31 (Male) – Maiduguri LGA, Borno State
The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that justice will be served for Somtochukwu Maduagwu and the slain security guard.
