Akure, Aug. 20, 2025 (NAN) – The Ondo State Police Command says it has recorded major breakthroughs in crime-fighting over the past two months, including the arrest of all suspects involved in the killing of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Akure, noting that a total of 208 suspects were apprehended for offences ranging from kidnapping, murder, rape, armed robbery, cultism, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft, to fraudulent property conversion.

Ayanlade explained that 99 of the suspects have already been arraigned in court, with at least 35 convictions secured within the period, while 25 firearms and 12 stolen vehicles were recovered from criminal gangs.

“It is worthy of note that in less than 72 hours, the command successfully arrested all individuals involved in the killing of two AAUA students,” he said.

“Similarly, within five days, the command apprehended a commercial motorcyclist who doubled as a kidnap informant, along with his gang members, in connection with the abduction of an AAUA staff member. All suspects linked to this crime have been arrested and are undergoing prosecution.”

Recovered firearms include prohibited rifles, cut-to-size locally fabricated pistols, and a Beretta pistol, according to the statement.

Ayanlade commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for their support, while appreciating residents whose timely intelligence has been crucial in the successes recorded.

“Security is a collective responsibility. We urge residents to remain vigilant, provide actionable intelligence, and resist the temptation of aiding criminal elements,” the spokesperson added.
