Lagos House Of Assembly To Spend N55.4billion On Lawmakers’ Quarters, Beautification Of Complex

Lagos Lawmakers Budget N55.4bn for Residential Quarters, Assembly Beautification in 2026

February 6, 2026

A review of the approved 2026 Lagos State budget by SaharaReporters has revealed that members of the Lagos State House of Assembly plan to spend a total of N55.4 billion on the construction of permanent residential quarters for lawmakers and the beautification of the Assembly complex.

According to the budget breakdown, N35.4 billion has been earmarked for the construction of Permanent Legislative Quarters for Honourable Members of the Assembly. The allocation also covers documentation processing, architectural and structural designs, soil testing, pile works, and consultancy services.

An additional N20 billion is allocated for the construction of new perimeter fencing and drainage channels at the legislative quarters, covering of gutters with slabs, landscaping, and general beautification of both the Assembly complex and the residential quarters.

In total, the lawmakers intend to spend N55.4 billion on housing and aesthetic upgrades for the legislative arm.

In contrast, only N16 billion was budgeted for MDA-executed community-based capital infrastructural interventions across the state.

Billions Spent on Generators, Properties in 2025

The 2026 budget allocations follow similar spending patterns observed in the 2025 fiscal year. A previous SaharaReporters review of Lagos State budget performance documents for the full year 2025 and the last quarter of the year showed that billions of naira were spent on lawmakers’ welfare-related projects.

According to the documents, N4.5 billion was expended on the purchase of forty 50KVA backup generators for members of the Assembly. An additional N3.6 billion was spent on the acquisition of properties in both Lagos and Abuja.

These expenditures formed part of the Lagos State House of Assembly’s capital spending for the 2025 fiscal year.

Vehicles, Renovations Outpace Flood Control Spending

Further analysis of the 2025 approved budget showed that the Assembly proposed to spend more on lawmakers’ vehicles, renovations, and generators than on erosion and flood control projects, despite widespread flooding across several parts of the state during the year.

The budget allocated N20.6 billion for the purchase of vehicles, including forty backup vehicles, forty utility buses, and forty official cars for lawmakers.

In addition, N4.5 billion was specifically earmarked for the purchase of forty 50KVA generators, highlighting continued heavy investment in alternative power supply.

The Assembly complex was also scheduled for extensive renovation, with N11 billion allocated for upgrades to the main legislative building, gatehouses, and car parks.

Separately, N30 billion was approved for the construction of a new fence, landscaping, beautification, and the development of an access road leading to the Assembly complex.

Altogether, spending on lawmakers’ vehicles, generators, and renovation projects was projected to consume N65 billion in the 2025 fiscal year, raising questions about spending priorities amid pressing infrastructure and environmental challenges across Lagos State.
