President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the difficult phase of the nation’s economic reforms is over, saying the country is now on the path to recovery and progress.
Delivering a nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary on Wednesday, the President said his administration’s policies are beginning to yield tangible results.
“Our administration is setting things right. I am pleased to report that we have finally turned the corner. The worst is over, I say,” Tinubu declared.
He commended Nigerians for their patience, resilience, and support during the reform process, noting that the sacrifices made are paving the way for national relief and growth.
“I will continue to work for you and justify the confidence you reposed in me to steer the ship of our nation to a safe harbour,” he assured.
Highlighting economic progress, Tinubu revealed that Nigeria recorded a 4.23 per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the second quarter of 2025—its fastest pace in four years and higher than the 3.4 per cent projection by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Food Security and Inflation
On efforts to ease the burden of rising costs, the President stressed that his government is prioritizing agriculture to drive food security and lower food prices.
“Inflation declined to 20.12 per cent in August 2025, the lowest level in three years. The administration is working diligently to boost agricultural production and ensure food security, reducing food costs,” he said.
According to him, the government has achieved 12 notable economic milestones in the last two years, made possible by what he described as “sound fiscal and monetary policies.”
Tinubu reiterated his vision of transforming Nigeria into a producing nation, not merely a consuming one, while assuring citizens that his administration remains committed to delivering lasting relief and prosperity.
