Documents Expose FCT Minister Wike’s Secret Property Transfers to Children

Fresh revelations have emerged showing how Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State, transferred multiple U.S. properties into the names of his wife and children between 2021 and 2023.

Records obtained by SaharaReporters reveal that Wike and his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzette Nyesom-Wike of Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, executed a series of Quit Claim Deeds in Florida, quietly moving ownership of their real estate holdings to their three children—Jordan, Joaquin, and Jazmyne.

President Bola Tinubu appointed Wike as FCT Minister in August 2023.

Property Transfers

July 22, 2021
Justice Eberechi Wike transferred ownership of a property located at 653 Dunblane Drive, Winter Park, Florida, to herself and her son, Joaquin Chibuike Nyesom-Wike, as joint tenants with right of survivorship.

July 27, 2021
She executed another Quit Claim Deed, transferring property in Seminole County, Florida, to herself and Jordan Ezenwo Nyesom-Wike under the same arrangement. The transaction was recorded for a token fee of $10.

August 13, 2023
A third Quit Claim Deed shows Eberechi Wike transferring property in Seminole County to herself and her daughter, Jazmyne Adaeze Nyesom-Wike. The deed identifies the property as Lot 57, The Reserve at Tuscawilla, Phase II.

All documents were filed with the Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller of Seminole County, Florida, and witnessed by Wike and his wife.

Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, who shared the documents on his verified X account, accused Wike of hiding illicit wealth.

“These are the Quit Claim Deeds that Nigeria’s FCT Minister and his wife used to transfer three Florida properties into the names of their children. Wike claimed ignorance on national TV, but these papers prove otherwise,” Sowore wrote.

He alleged that the properties were part of a broader scheme of laundering stolen wealth through U.S. real estate. Sowore also linked the transfers to a $2 million mansion in Florida—acquired in March 2025—registered under Justice Wike and their children’s names.

Why Quit Claim Deeds?

Explaining the loophole, Sowore noted:
“A Quit Claim Deed is a simple U.S. property transfer document, often used for family transactions. Because it provides no warranties and avoids detailed checks, it is cheap, quick, and rarely scrutinized. This makes it a tool of choice for corrupt politicians seeking to conceal assets.”

He alleged that by shifting ownership to their children, the Wike family disguised the true source of funds used to acquire the properties.

Potential U.S. Legal Implications

Sowore warned that under U.S. law, the transactions could amount to money laundering and trafficking in stolen property—offenses punishable under federal and state statutes. He said the assets may also be subject to forfeiture under the U.S. Department of Justice’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative.

He confirmed that he had petitioned Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, alerting U.S. authorities to what he described as “first-class felonies” involving illicit wealth transfers.

Abuja Land Allocations

Beyond the U.S. properties, reports by Peoples Gazette and West Africa Weekly earlier this year accused Wike of abusing his office by allocating over 2,000 hectares of prime Abuja land to his son, Joaquin, as well as multiple plots to family members and associates.

Documents cited show that between April and July 2025, Wike approved land allocations worth billions of naira for his relatives—including his 90-year-old father, siblings, cousins, nephews, and in-laws.

Wike has consistently denied all allegations.
