Youths Protest Rising Insecurity in Lade, Demand Urgent Government Action

Youths from Lade community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State — hometown of the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Lade — have staged a protest against the growing insecurity and bandit attacks plaguing their region.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Our Voice Must Be Heard” and “End Banditry in Lade and Kwara North,” the protesters lamented the persistent attacks that have left many residents displaced, farmlands abandoned, and lives lost.

According to them, communities in Lade and across Kwara North have been under siege from bandits, with families forced to flee and children deprived of safety and hope.

“From Lade to every corner of Kwara North, families are being displaced, farmers are abandoning their lands, and children are losing hope. Enough is enough,” the youths declared.

They called on Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, security agencies, and relevant authorities to take decisive action to restore peace and protect lives and property in the area.

“The time to act is now,” they said.
“Kwara North must not be forgotten. Our people must be protected.”

The protest follows renewed violence in the region. On Sunday evening, gunmen attacked Rani Ramat village in Patigi Local Government Area, killing one person and abducting the village head.

According to reports by NupekoTV-Lafiagi, the assault occurred around 6:20 p.m., during the Maghrib (sunset) prayer. Witnesses said the attackers rode into the community on motorcycles and began shooting sporadically, sending residents fleeing for safety.

During the attack, a resident identified as Alhaji Liman was shot dead, while the village head, Alhaji Ndako, was kidnapped and taken to an unknown location.

A witness described the incident as sudden and terrifying, noting that the community had no prior warning before the attackers struck.

The tragic event adds to a growing list of violent raids and kidnappings that have terrorized rural communities in the Patigi Emirate and other parts of Kwara North in recent weeks.
