Delta Police Arrest Community Head, Four Others Over ‘Raping Festival’ Sex Attacks In Ozoro

Police Arrest Event Organiser, Four Others Over Alleged Assault of Women in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested the chief organiser of a local event in Ozoro, Chief Omorede Sunday, along with four other suspects, following the circulation of disturbing videos showing the assault and molestation of young women in Oramudu quarters, Isoko North Local Government Area.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe. The police described the acts captured in the videos as “criminal, inhumane, and a grave violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of victims.”

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, ordered an immediate investigation upon reviewing the footage. This directive led to the arrest of the suspects allegedly linked to the incident.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Authorities say tactical and investigative teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend other individuals involved, with a firm commitment to ensuring prosecution.

The police also called on victims and witnesses to come forward with useful information, assuring that all reports will be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.

Commissioner Adesola urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, upholding citizens’ rights, and maintaining public order.

The arrests follow widespread outrage over reports that several women were attacked during a local festival in Ozoro, where some accounts alleged that females were warned to stay indoors during certain periods of the celebration for safety reasons.

Security concerns have been particularly heightened for students of Delta State University and visitors unfamiliar with the risks associated with the event. The police have strongly condemned the incident, vowing that all those involved will face the full weight of the law.
