An angry crowd on Tuesday attacked a federal lawmaker in Dansadau town, Zamfara State, accusing him of poor performance since assuming office.
According to residents, the incident was driven by growing frustration over what they described as unmet expectations and the absence of tangible development projects in the area.
A video obtained by SaharaReporters shows the lawmaker—said to be a member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara State—being slapped, dragged, and manhandled by a mob, as security operatives struggled to shield him from further assault.
In the footage, members of the crowd can be heard shouting “bamayi,” a Hausa expression commonly used to convey anger or rejection, while the lawmaker was pulled in different directions.
Security personnel eventually overpowered the attackers and forced the lawmaker into a waiting vehicle, preventing the situation from escalating further.
Voices captured in the video suggest that the violence stemmed from deep-seated public discontent over the lawmaker’s perceived failure to deliver on campaign promises since his election.
