Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo launched his 2027–2031 policy document, “Farewell to Poverty and Insecurity,” in Abuja, asserting that four years is sufficient time for a committed leader to transform Nigeria.

Rejecting “sloganeering, rhetoric, and ethnic politics,” Adebayo presented the manifesto as an open policy blueprint for public debate and outlined key economic and security proposals while criticizing the current administration.

Key Policy Proposals

  • Affordable Energy & Refining: Promised to establish four functional state-owned refineries and 36 modular refineries alongside private sector investments. Proposed reducing domestic petrol prices to N200 per liter to align with local earning capacities.
  • Power Grid Expansion: Targeted an increase in electricity generation capacity to 75,000 megawatts using indigenous resources.
  • Security Reform: Outlined a strategy combining political, economic, and social measures. Argued that replacing ineffective governance would address 60% of the root causes driving banditry and insecurity.
  • Institutional Overhaul: Pledged reforms at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to focus on currency stabilization, employment, and local productivity, while vowing to curb revenue leakage in petroleum, solid minerals, and tax collection.

Challenge to the Administration

Adebayo publicly challenged President Bola Tinubu to a policy debate to account for his administration’s performance. He called on the President to detail the allocation of funds saved from fuel subsidy removal, expenditures on security, and progress on compressed natural gas (CNG) and electricity initiatives.
