Obasanjo Urges Re-Elected Adeleke to Continue Good Governance

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election and urged him to remain committed to good governance and delivering the benefits of democracy to the people.

Obasanjo made the call on Sunday night when he paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his country home in Ede.

During the visit, the former president prayed for the governor and encouraged him to build on his achievements while prioritising the needs and welfare of the people of Osun State.

“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo told Adeleke.

The governor expressed appreciation for the visit, thanking God and the people of Osun State for his victory. He also promised to remain committed to serving the people and upholding democratic values.

Adeleke told the former president that he would not disappoint God, the people of Osun State and those who supported his re-election.

Obasanjo was accompanied on the visit by his ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe. Adeleke, who was joined by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, received the former president with dancing and songs of praise in celebration of the election victory.

Adeleke, who was first elected governor in 2022, secured another four-year term in Saturday’s governorship election under the Accord Party platform, having left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2025.

The governor won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke’s victory triggered celebrations across Osun State, with supporters taking to the streets following the announcement of the results.

The former president’s congratulatory visit comes as Adeleke begins preparations for his second term, with expectations mounting for his administration to sustain good governance and deliver further development across the state.
