Enugu Government Distributes Free Farm Inputs to 63,000 Smallholder Farmers
The Enugu State Government has launched the 2026 Agricultural Free Inputs Distribution Programme, providing 63,000 registered smallholder farmers with free fertilisers, improved seeds, cassava stems, and agrochemicals to boost food production and improve livelihoods.
Governor Peter Mbah said the initiative is part of his administration’s vision to transform agriculture into a major economic driver and grow Enugu into a $30 billion economy, with agriculture expected to contribute 40% of the state’s economic growth.
Beyond distributing farm inputs, the government is investing in mechanised farming, modern seed technology, irrigation systems, farm roads, agro-processing zones, and export infrastructure to help farmers transition from subsistence farming to commercial agriculture.
Governor Mbah also warned against the diversion or sale of the free inputs, stressing that they are meant solely for registered farmers to increase productivity, ensure bumper harvests, and help reduce food prices across the state.
The programme reflects the state’s broader commitment to improving food security, creating jobs, increasing farmers’ incomes, and strengthening agricultural value chains.
