PFIPC Controversy: Adeyemi Vows to Clear His Name as Presidency Pursues Court Case

Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has vowed to clear his name in court amid allegations of impersonation and forgery brought against him by the Federal Government.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Thursday, Adeyemi said he was prepared to face the legal process and was confident the court would determine the truth.

“If I’m wrong, let the court of law decide that, and if I’m right, let the court do the right thing,” he said.

Rejecting allegations that he is a fraudster, Adeyemi maintained that the matter should be left to the courts.

“Since the matter is already before a competent court, I believe the judicial process will vindicate me,” he stated.

Adeyemi declined to respond to questions about the source of funding for the council’s operations and staff salaries, saying his lawyers had advised him not to comment further because the case is pending before the court.

For several months, Adeyemi publicly identified himself as the head of the PFIPC, appearing in photographs with prominent Nigerian figures and speaking about the council’s activities. However, the Presidency has denied the existence of the organisation, describing it as fictitious.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga accused Adeyemi of impersonation, forgery and fraudulent misrepresentation, alleging that he used fake government documents to deceive public officials and members of the public.

According to the Presidency, police investigations revealed that Adeyemi allegedly used forged documents to open a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) account by misleading the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. Authorities, however, stated that no government funds were paid into the account.

The Federal Government has since filed an eight-count charge against Adeyemi and two others at the Federal High Court in Abuja, bordering on forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. The case is scheduled to resume on July 27.

In response, Adeyemi denied any wrongdoing and made fresh allegations against the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, claiming that efforts were made to frustrate his activities after he refused certain demands. He also alleged that a request was made for a share of the agency’s proposed take-off grant—an allegation that has been denied.

Adeyemi called on President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent investigative panel to examine all the claims surrounding the controversy.

Meanwhile, a review of the 2026 Appropriation Bill published by the Budget Office shows an entity listed as “Presidential Economic Advisory Council/Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” with a proposed allocation of ₦1.303 billion, comprising ₦802.98 million for personnel, ₦200 million for overhead costs, and ₦300 million for capital expenditure.

The legal proceedings are expected to determine the legitimacy of Adeyemi’s claims and the status of the controversial council.
