Suspected Boko Haram Attack Forces Residents to Flee Kautikari Community in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents on Saturday evening attacked Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting two schools on fire and forcing residents to flee for safety.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 7:00 p.m. and targeted Kautikari Primary School and Government Day Secondary School. Both facilities were said to have been engulfed in flames as the attackers entered the community.

Kautikari, located within the Chibok axis of Borno State, has experienced repeated insurgent attacks over the years despite ongoing military operations aimed at combating terrorism in Nigeria’s North-East region.

Security personnel from the community, currently stationed in Maiduguri, confirmed the incident and said residents were forced to escape into nearby bushes as the attack unfolded.

According to one security source, the village came under assault by suspected Boko Haram fighters, causing widespread panic among residents.

The source stated that community members were scrambling for safety while the two schools burned during the attack.

As of the time of reporting, authorities were still assessing the situation, and details regarding possible casualties or the full extent of the damage had not been confirmed.

Security agencies had yet to release an official statement on the incident, while investigations and assessments of the attack were ongoing.

The latest assault highlights the continuing security challenges facing communities in parts of Borno State, where insurgent groups remain active despite sustained military efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
