Bola Tinubu has vowed that Nigeria will defeat terrorism despite the recent deadly attack in Borno State, which claimed the life of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and several soldiers.

In a statement issued by his adviser, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed deep sorrow over the loss of troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai, who were killed during a coordinated assault on their base in Benisheikh. He assured that the tragic incident would not weaken the nation’s resolve to end insurgency.

Tinubu praised the bravery and sacrifice of the fallen soldiers, noting that they fought valiantly to repel the attackers and prevent them from overrunning nearby communities. He described the attack as a sign of desperation by insurgents who have suffered significant setbacks from ongoing military offensives.

The President urged military commanders and frontline troops to remain steadfast, assuring them of continued government support in terms of welfare and equipment. He also called on Nigerians and the media to avoid glorifying attacks on security forces, emphasizing that the soldiers remain national heroes whose sacrifices will not be forgotten.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters confirmed the incident and appealed to the public to respect military protocols, particularly the need to notify families of fallen personnel before releasing full details. It also warned against the spread of misinformation, stressing that unverified reports could undermine ongoing operations.

According to the military, troops responded swiftly and successfully repelled the attackers, forcing them to retreat. Additional operations are ongoing to track down fleeing insurgents and prevent regrouping.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to restoring lasting peace across the country, maintaining that the fight against terrorism remains a top priority.
