Tinubu to Visit Jos After Deadly Plateau Attack

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected in Jos, the Plateau State capital, today following a deadly attack that left 28 people dead and 22 others injured.

The visit comes as calm gradually returns to the city after tensions flared on Wednesday, prompting heightened security across affected areas.

The President will be received at Yakubu Gowon Airport, where he is expected to engage with stakeholders, assess the security situation, and show support for victims of the violence.

Earlier, Tinubu met with Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he condemned the attacks in Jos and a separate incident in Kahir village, Kaduna State, involving the killing and abduction of wedding guests.

Describing the attackers as “heartless cowards,” the President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those responsible. He also cautioned against narratives suggesting religious motives, warning that such claims could escalate tensions.

The violence reportedly occurred near Anguwan Rukuba junction, where gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on residents. The incident triggered protests, with angry youths blocking major roads in the area.

The unrest follows earlier attacks in Plateau State, including the killing of security operatives and vigilantes in Kanam Local Government Area.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the University of Jos ordered students to vacate hostels as a precautionary measure. Vice Chancellor Tanko Ishaya directed the evacuation, citing safety concerns.

To facilitate the process, the state government provided transportation for students, including approval for movement during curfew hours.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant but hopeful as efforts continue to restore peace and stability across the state.
