Bandits Kill 13, Abduct Several at Kaduna Wedding
At least 13 people have been killed and several others abducted after armed bandits attacked a wedding ceremony in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Police authorities confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are ongoing to gather full details, including the exact number of those kidnapped.
According to a community leader, Musa Adamu, the attack occurred around 11:47 p.m. on Sunday when the assailants, heavily armed and in large numbers, stormed the venue and opened fire on guests.
Several victims sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the General Hospital in Kagarko, while those with more severe injuries were referred to hospitals in Kaduna.
Residents said the attackers operated for nearly an hour without resistance, during which they also looted nearby shops, carting away food items, provisions, and drugs from a local chemist.
Security agencies have since launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Kaduna remains one of the North-West states plagued by banditry, alongside Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Katsina.
In addition to bandit groups, a faction known as Lakurawa has been linked to attacks in parts of Kebbi and Sokoto, where its members reportedly raid communities, rustle livestock, and impose levies on residents.
Nigeria continues to face widespread security challenges across the region, with military operations yielding limited success. The violence has also spilled into neighbouring countries such as Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, leading to the formation of a regional military coalition, which has recently weakened following Niger’s withdrawal after a diplomatic dispute with Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the United States has begun deploying troops to Nigeria to provide technical and training support in the fight against insurgent groups, with about 200 personnel expected to participate.
