Updated March 8, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the remarkable contributions of Nigerian women to national development, assuring that his administration will continue to create more opportunities for them to thrive and contribute even more to the country.

In a statement released to mark International Women’s Day 2026, the President celebrated Nigerian women both at home and in the diaspora for their resilience and dedication.

“Today, on International Women’s Day, I celebrate the women of Nigeria, at home and abroad,” Tinubu said.

He emphasized that it is the responsibility of both government and society to create an environment where girls can receive quality education, women can achieve economic independence, and their voices can play an active role in national development.

Tinubu, who previously served as the governor of Lagos, noted that Nigerian women continue to show exceptional strength, courage, and determination in different areas of life—whether in homes, markets, workplaces, or leadership positions.

According to him, women serve as nurturing mothers, innovative entrepreneurs, accomplished professionals, and responsible citizens who consistently shape the country’s future with resilience and dignity.

He also highlighted that Nigeria’s progress has long been influenced by women who refused to accept societal limitations. From those who fought for democracy to the countless women working daily to support their families and communities, their role in nation-building remains invaluable.

While acknowledging their sacrifices and unwavering commitment, the president concluded, “When Nigerian women rise, Nigeria rises.”

Governors Also Celebrate Nigerian Women

Several state governors also joined in celebrating Nigerian women, praising their resilience and impact on national growth.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State said his administration remains committed to expanding opportunities for women in governance, business, and community development.

Similarly, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State described women as symbols of courage, creativity, and perseverance.

He noted that across farms, markets, schools, industries, and public institutions, women in Cross River continue to play a vital role in shaping the state’s development through hard work, intelligence, and a strong commitment to progress.
