Police Remove Force PRO Benjamin Hundeyin Amid Leadership Reshuffle

March 5, 2026

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has removed its Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, less than six months after he assumed the high-profile role.

Sources within the police confirmed that approval for Hundeyin’s removal was granted on Thursday, March 5, though the circumstances surrounding the decision remain unclear as of the time of this report.

The development is believed to be part of an ongoing restructuring within the police hierarchy following recent changes in the leadership of the force headquarters.

The shake-up comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police last week. Disu replaced Kayode Egbetokun, who had led the force since 2023.

A source quoted by THE WHISTLER confirmed the development, saying the decision was made earlier on Thursday.

“The Force Public Relations Officer has been removed this morning,” the source said.

However, it remains uncertain who will take over the role as the new spokesperson of the force, especially as police operational activities have intensified in recent days.

“We don’t know who will take over from him, although we thought he would last longer considering his expertise,” the source added. “But when a new IGP is appointed, it’s not unusual for certain positions to change. Unfortunately, he was affected.”

When contacted by SaharaReporters, Hundeyin said he was “unavailable right now” and advised that enquiries be directed to spokespersons of the FCT or state police commands.
